Trvthseeker:Here’s what my cabinet will look like

VOTETRVTH

THIS IS AN UNEDITED BLOG POST FROM TRVTHSEEKER,

WHIG PARTY PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE

A President provides leadership. I believe the office must also encourage leadership in others. The Republic is not the sole responsibility of the President. The set up of my government will reflect several priorities. First, I want to encourage as much citizenship participation as possible. Second, I want to set out clear goals that can accomplished. Third, I want the government to be accountable. The primary cabinet will be 3 people plus me. They will have specific roles. I will put them up for nomination. Each ‘Minister’ (for lack of better term) will have 3 advisors who work under him (or possibly her). The Minister will be responsible for their 3 advisors and the advisors will assist the Minister in achieving their goals. The 3 positions and their goals for this term are as follows:

  1. Legislator – A good idea Dennis had, but he didn’t follow through with it, instead having his chief of staff do the work. I think this is an important role. The Legislator’s primary role will be taking propositions that reach substantive status and ensuring that they get turned into substantive propositions. This will sometimes require negotiations between the mover of the original proposition and the government. I was also want each advisor to come up with at least one proposition that will improve Titulia.
  2. Immigration and Public Relations – The work of immigration and public relations can be done together. We need to get our name out on the World Wide Web and we need to bring more citizens into Titulia. The 3 advisors will work with the minister to develop a strategy that will bring more people to Titulia.
  3. Justice and Attorney General – Like our economy, our justice system is still in its infancy. We need to further develop our justice system. Now that we are close to having 3 judges on the bench, we need someone (if necessary, to be honest, I hope it isn’t necessary) to bring people to trial and the laws to try them against. An issue that comes up again and again is freedom of speech vs. the protection of individuals.

I want to task this minister and the advisors to develop a law that protects freedom of speech but defines hate language, slander and copyright violations. This will be a difficult role. In my platform I mentioned that citizens will be able to create committees to look at problems and recommend solutions. I want to begin my term with creating a committee and demonstrating how this system will work. The Economic Advisory Group will bring together 3-4 of Titulia’s top economic minds. As part of the committee’s terms of reference I want each member to submit their ideas on what the government can do to boost the economy. From those suggestions I want the committee then to file a report on what it believes can be done to get the economy going. I will encourage non-profits to take a more active role in Titulia. If they are doing something that is creating value for the Republic but do not have a revenue stream then I believe this is something the government should support. By having a healthy non-profit sector will also encourage the flow of tollars by encouraging citizens to donate to causes that benefit Titulia and having more citizens earning tollars by getting paid for delivering non-profit services. We have started to set up some institutions in Titulia. But this is something that Dennis has done nothing to improve. Under a Trvthseeker government we will see the development of the archives, a remodelling of Government Centre, the foundations of Liberty House and more editors for The Post. We need to encourage more government activity in order to encourage more activity throughout the Republic. Of course we need money in order to do all this. The government receives T$1000 a month from the bank. I plan on budgeting all that, with most of the money going towards salaries. Some areas may see an increase, others may see a decrease. I plan on spending the reserve (the leftovers from what previous governments did not spend) on one time spending, like on architectural fees to renovate or build government buildings. I plan on using the Titulia Territory Fund to help give land grants to non-profits and other government related institutions. Now this may be contentious for some people, but that money is just sitting there and it should go back into the economy. I have checked with the Admin and they said most of the money came from the original settlers, most of whom are now inactive. I think if we give citizens enough warning that we are changing the purpose of the fund then this should be sufficient. The money has been transferred to the government and the government should use it. I hope to release a budget near the end of this campaign so that we can discuss it and if you choose to elect me, the budget will be introduced soon after I am elected. So this outlines my vision on government structure. I believe I have the leadership skills to make this work. It may not be the most exciting stuff, but running government is usually boring. But by providing a government structure that works I hope that we will be able to encourage participation and the discussion throughout the Republic will be anything but boring.

OPINION/What do you think of Trvthseeker’s ideas?
